ALBANY - The number of patents issued to Tech Valley companies in the first quarter declined sharply from the previous quarter, according to the Tech Valley Patent Index Wednesday.
Patents dropped from 535 in the 2004 fourth quarter to 437 in the first quarter this year. At the same time, the national index fell from 41,397 in the fourth quarter to 40,557 in the first quarter.
