AMBULANCE RESPONSE TIME SPURS CONCERN IN SCH'DY.(Local)

City Fire Department officials have expressed concern over some response times of private ambulance services transporting patients being treated by the Municipal Emergency Medical Services Program.

"Operating with a private ambulance service brings with it the inevitable personnel conflicts, jealousies and unacceptable response problems," Fire Chief Thomas A. Varno said Tuesday as the City Council Public Safety Committee met.

He recommended that modular ambulances be purchased by the city as replacements for rescue vehicles so firefighters can transport patients they treat.
