FED: Wider drugs exemption would cost $30 million

CANBERRA, Feb 4 AAP - Exempting Schedule 2 pharmacy drugs from the GST would cost the
commonwealth only about $30 million a year, the Pharmacy Guild of Australia said today.

Schedule 2 items include analgesics used for chronic pain and inflammation, analgesics for
children, creams for skin conditions, eye drops, and some products used for baby care.

The government originally proposed exempting only medicines on the Pharmaceutical Benefits
Scheme (PBS) but widened this to Schedule 3 medicines, those supplied only by pharmacists, on
