There are no flowers or lush green parks for children to play. There is no public swimming pool. But there is a river, where teenagers gather - to do tik. The Blomvlei River flows through Hanover Park, a concrete slab of a desolate Cape Town suburb off Lansdowne Road.
This is where I meet the gentle-voiced Carol van Wyk, known as "Sister Carol", a modern disciple and guardian angel. At 17 she was a Sunday school teacher.
